Instant Pot White Rice
Long grain white rice rinsed clean and pressure cooked with equal parts water for four minutes, then rested and fluffed with a fork.

Ingredients  

  • 2 cups long grain white rice rinsed thoroughly
  • 2 cups water 480 ml
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt optional
  • 1 teaspoon neutral oil or butter optional

Instructions

  • Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

  • Add the rinsed rice and water to the Instant Pot. Add the salt and the oil or butter if using.
  • Close the lid and set the valve to Sealing.
  • Set to High Pressure for 4 minutes.
  • Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then quick release any pressure that remains.
  • Fluff the rice gently with a fork, lifting rather than stirring, and serve.

Notes

Nutrition values are an estimate. The 1:1 water-to-rice ratio works because nothing evaporates in a sealed pot. Rinsing the rice removes excess starch and helps prevent clumping. The 10 minute natural release is what stops the base coming out wet, so do not skip it. Salt and oil are optional but improve flavour and texture.
