Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose plain flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 stick/100g cold butter diced
  • 1 cup buttercream or plain yogurt
  • butter to grease the pan

Instructions

  • Grease a medium-sized baking pan with butter.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder; rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Add milk and, to prevent the bread from getting tough, work the dough until ingredients are just blended and form a ball that does not stick to your hands.
  • Transfer to a floured work surface and, using a rolling pin, roll out to about 2 cm (¾ in) thickness.
  • Cut dough into circles about 3 cm (1¼ in) in diameter and place on the prepared baking pan, leaving space between them.
  • Cover biscuits with a towel and let stand for 15 minutes while you preheat the oven to 220ºC (425ºF / hot / Gas 7).
  • Bake for 12 minutes or so, until they are golden brown and risen.
  • Wait 5 minutes and serve.
