The pizza rolls recipe is so good it will be part of your life once you’ve done it! Sausage and cheese pizza rolls are great for a Sunday dinner and picnics, being so practical and good even when reheated.
6z/170 g sliced smoked sweet Italian sausagespepperoni, or cooked ham
1green bell pepperdiced
2tspdried oreganoor to taste
12basil leaves
Satgarlic powder or Italian seasoning to taste
Oil olive to drizzle
Instructions
1 - Start preparing pizza dough 3 hours before serving. In a small bowl, combine yeast, sugar, lukewarm water, and 1/2 cup flour; let sit for about 15 minutes, until mixture is foamy. Mix in olive oil and salt, and then add flour, little by little, working the dough until it is smooth and does not stick to your hands.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let rest for 1 hour, or until it's doubled in size.
2 - Grease a large baking sheet with olive oil.
3 - Dust work surface and dough – if too sticky – with flour. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into a 12x15in/30x40cm rectangle.
4 - Spread the tomato sauce on the rectangles, leaving a 1 cm (⅜ in) border all around the edges. Cover with mozzarella cheese and sausage strips (it will be easier to cut rolls). Roll it like a jelly roll and press firmly to seal.
With a sharp knife, cut across roll making 12 rounds about 2in/5 cm thick.
5 - Place rolls into the prepared baking pan, on their cut sides, and close together cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
6 - Fifteen minutes before baking, preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC/high. Put the pan into the oven and bake for about 25 minutes, until risen and golden brown all sides
